Inter do not have an agreement in place to sign Club Brugge and Canadian national team star Tajon Buchanan despite rumours that they are on the verge of completing a deal.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that whilst the Nerazzurri do consider the 24-year-old to be a major target, there are still factors that would make a deal hard to agree immediately.
A report from Belgian news outlet HLN emerged yesterday that Inter are very close to signing Buchanan during the summer transfer window.
Whilst it was not reported that pen had been put to paper on anything yet, the Belgian outlet suggested that a complete verbal agreement has been reached between the two clubs regarding the terms of a deal that would be worth around €15 million.
Some cold water was poured on this report by Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who suggested that whilst the Canadian star would be keen on making the move, there have not been any serious talks between Inter and Brugge.
The Corriere have further put the brakes on the rumours that the Nerazzurri’s pursuit of Buchanan is as far along as HLN has reported.
According to the newspaper, whilst there is plenty of substance to the links between Inter and Buchanan, the fact remains that the club are simply not in a position to make such an advanced move for him as of yet.
Firstly, there is the fact that Denzel Dumfries would have to be sold during the summer before the Nerazzurri would move for Buchanan as his replacements.
Whilst it is true that Inter would certainly be willing to listen to offers for the Dutchman, the fact that his valuation has gone down in recent months, as has interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, makes things less certain.
Then, there is the fact that Inter do not yet know whether or not they will be able to rely on income from the Champions League next season, a key factor in their financial plans for the upcoming summer.
