Former Inter forward Antonio Cassano feels AC Milan can’t keep up with the Nerazzurri without Rafael Leao in the team.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, via FCInter1908, Cassano described the gap between the two derby rivals as an “abyss”.

However, Cassano also stated that Simone Inzaghi should part ways with Inter as head coach, possibly even if he wins the Champions League.

The absence of Portuguese superstar Rafael Leao was always likely to play a major role yesterday.

The 23-year-old picked up a muscle injury in Saturday’s Serie A clash with Lazio.

Whilst AC Milan did everything possible to recover the ex-Lille and Sporting man, he wasn’t risked on the bench.

Milan coach Stefano Pioli did everything he could to set the team up without Leao.

However, as Cassano argues, without the pace and skill of the Portuguese international, there was little contest.

Inter & AC Milan “No Contest” Without Rafael Leao

Cassano stated that “There was no contest between the two, Inter were the favourites, and even moreso given the particular moment.”

“There was an incredible abyss between the two teams in quality, in experience, in character, in everything – Inter dominated in all senses.

“I got the impression that Milan were without any weapons to do anything,” the former forward continued.

“They rely entirely on Leao, if you take him away Milan are one-noted.

“Dzeko and Lautaro ran riot,” Cassano continued, “Calabria, Kjaer, Tomori, and Theo steamrolled.

“Inter were more than deserving of the win, and even though anything can happen, things look bleak for Milan” Cassano stated.

Cassano Still Feels Simone Inzaghi Must Go

Former Nerazzurri man Antonio Cassano has been an outspoken critic of current coach Inzaghi before, and he hasn’t changed his tune.

“I’d only keep going if he wins [the Champions League],” he said.

“One good month can’t erase twenty failures,” he went on.

“Last season they threw the Scudetto down the toilet, against a Milan team who’re far weaker than them. Even if Inter win, I’ll celebrate.

“But then I think they have to shake hands and go their separate ways” Cassano concluded.

“Even if he wins [the Champions League],” Cassano said of Inzaghi, “he has to go.”
