The future of Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi is up in the air as the club could still offer him a contract extension.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, as reported via Milan basd Inter Milan news-site FCInter1908.

According to the report, Nerazzurri President Steven Zhang is yet to make a final decision on Inzaghi’s future. Simone Inzaghi’s current contract with Inter Milan expire at the end of June 2024.

The 47-year-old joined on a two-year deal from Lazio in the summer of 2021, extending hos contract by a further season last summer.

Inzaghi’s situation on the Inter bench has begun to look like something of a paradox. Especially given the poor run in the Serie A this season.

In recent months, several reports in Italy claim the ex-Lazio boss will be sacked at the end of this season.

A report emerged a few days ago that Inter CEO Beppe Marotta is inclined to part ways with the coach this summer.

Bologna’s Thiago Motta is linked, as is Brighton and Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi.

Simone Inzaghi Has Gone From Zero To Hero At Inter Milan

Whilst Inter’s league form has put Inzaghi’s future in jeopardy, their runs in cup competitions have done quite the opposite.

There’s the Coppa Italia where the Nerazzurri will face Fiorentina in the final later this month.

However, the real point in the coach’s favour is of course Inter’s heroics in the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri are 90 minutes away from reaching the final of Europe’s top club competition against either Manchester City or Real Madrid.

Should Inter reach the final of the Champions League, sacking Simone Inzaghi could become an unpopular idea. Accordingly, the Nerazzurri have a real decision on their hands.

Inter CEO Marotta has never started a season with a coach on an expiring contract, the report adds. Accordingly, should Inter continue with Inzaghi over next season, Inter would extend his contract.

Moreover, the coach could well feel that he is due a pay raise should Inter reach the Champions League final.
