French referee Clement Turpin will be in charge of Inter Milan’s Champions League semifinal second leg against AC Milan.
This is confirmed by UEFA, via FCInterNews, who announced the referees in charge of both of this coming week’s semifinal second leg matches.
Experienced referee Turpin is one of the most experienced referees in all of European football. The 40-year-old has been refereeing since 2006 and has officiated in the French top flight Ligue 1 since 2008.
Additionally, the Frenchman has also been in charge of European club matches since the 2010-11 season.
Last season, Turpin officiated the Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool in Paris.
The season before then, the referee had been in charge of the 2021 Europa League final in Gdansk. That match saw Villarreal triumph over Manchester United on penalties.
Clement Turpin Entrusted To Keep A Lid On Inter Vs AC Milan Derby
Turpin will have a tough assignment on his hands in the Milan derby. The clash between city rivals is rarely uneventful, and the stakes couldn’t be higher.
The Nerazzurri will be hoping that they can make good on their 2-0 first leg advantage and book their spot in the Champions League final.
In the first leg, Spanish official Jesus Gil Manzano came in for some criticism.
Manzano has been heavily criticized for not failure to send off Rossoneri midfielder Rade Krunic also not awarding Inter a penalty after the Bosnian punched Alessandro Bastoni.
Turpin’s two assistant referees are Nicolas Danos and Benajmin Pages with Stephanie Frappart the Fourth Official.
In the VAR booth, Jerome Brisard will oversee the match and correct any major errors made by the on-pitch officials. Benoit Millot will assist Brisard.
Experienced French Referee Also Has FIFA World Cup Experience
In addition to his club experience, Turpin has also extensively worked in international football.
Most notably, the Frenchman refereed at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Furthermore, Turpin also took charge of qualifying matches for the 2014 World Cup.
