Legendary former Nerazzurri captain Beppe Bergomi feels that coach Simone Inzaghi is giving the entire Inter Milan squad the chance to shine.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the former defender noted that the current Inter coach is allowing every player to play at a crucial stage in the season.

Inter’s squad depth is certainly an asset to the team.

The Nerazzurri do not only have players capable of comprising a strong starting eleven. There are also good players in reserve across all the competition.

Inzaghi has done everything that he has been able to to get the most out of this squad depth. This has been the case in terms of both the starting eleven and his use of substitutions.

This begins all the way back in goal. Captain Samir Handanovic was used against Sassuolo on the weekend ahead of first-choice keeper Andre Onana. The Slovenian has played a fair bit of football even since Onana established himself as the starter.

At the other end, Inzaghi has rotated the strikers significantly. In recent matches, Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko have started in midweek fixtures. Meanwhile Romelu Lukaku and Joaquin Correa have started on the weekend.

Inzaghi has also rotated the team significantly everywhere between those two ends of the pitch.

Moreover, the 47-year-old hasn’t been afraid to turn to his bench during matches. Inzaghi has frequently used all five substitutions available to him.

This to trying get everything he can out of his squad rather than exhausting the starting eleven players in the most important part of the season.

From the perspective of former defender Bergomi, the coach has certainly been keen to allow everyone their time in the sun.

Beppe Bergomi: Inter Milan Coach Simone Inzaghi Trusts His Squad

“Now the team is in good form,” Bergomi said of the Nerazzurri. “And above all Inzaghi trusts everyone in his squad and lets them all play.”

“He also understands that the team are playing too often for him not to rotate the team like that,” he added.

“Inter, to achieve peak performance, need to be fit,” Bergomi observed.

“Right now they’re keeping at it, but they need to stay fit a little longer.”

Bergomi noted that “Inter are on average an older team in terms of age than Milan, and therefore have more appearances in Europe between them.”

“Inter have gotten to this point looking fit, but they’ll have to keep that going a little longer,” he continued.

“This season we’ve seen what happens when the tension gets let up a bit.

“Yesterday [Inter assistant coach Massimiliano] Farris underlined how much the team missed Lukaku, because Inter are a team who don’t really have a threat on the dribble, so having a player who can give the team the ability to counterattack is important.”

Beppe Bergomi played for Inter for his entire career which spanned over two decades. As captain he won the UEFA Cup with the Nerazzurri thrice, in 1991, 1994 and 1998.

He also, played in the final of the UEFA Cup in 1997, which Inter lost to Schalke 04 on penalties. Bergomi also won one Serie A title with Inter, during the 1988/1989 record breaking season.

Bergomi also won the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain with Italy beating West Germany in the final.
