Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is likely to be benched in tomorrow evening’s Champions League match against AC Milan.
This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. The broadcaster reports that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi is likely to select the same starting eleven as from the first leg.
Inter coach Inzaghi will have a number of decisions to make all over the pitch in tomorrow’s match.
The coach heavily rotated the team against Sassuolo over the weekend. Eight changes to the lineup meant that a number of regular starters were given a rest.
The coach will have a number of factors to consider. Fitness and tactical cohesion will be among them, as Inzaghi knows the job isn’t done against Milan. The Nerazzurri will need to be at their best to see out the tie and reach the Champions League final.
However, according to Sky, the 47-year-old will not make any changes.
Romelu Lukaku Not Set To Start For Inter Vs AC Milan
The big news concerning Inzaghi’s team selection could be Lukaku’s absence.
According to Sky, the coach is strongly leaning towards playing the same eleven that started against the Rossoneri on Wednesday. Inter won that first leg clash 2-0. The coach is inclined to go what worked last times around.
This comes despite Lukaku having been Inter’s match-winner over the weekend.
The Belgian was widely praised for not just his brace, but his outstanding overall display against Sassuolo. There is no doubt that having vintage Romelu Lukaku back helps Inter a lot.
However, while the Belgian may have his say off the bench tomorrow, he will not start.
Rather, Inzaghi is likely to revert to the partnership of Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko up front from the first leg.
This follows a familiar pattern of completely rotating the attack from match to match in recent weeks.
