Legendary former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi feels that Inter Milan play a very “Italian” style of football.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInter1908, the former coach gaive his appraisal of the Nerazzurri’s style of football, noting that at the moment they’re doing it at a very high level.

Sacchi has often suggested that Inter’s style of football is well-suited to the Italian game, but less so to European competition.

After Milan won the first league derby of the season, he made the contrast clear. In the former coach’s view, Inter are more reliant on individual players.

The Rossoneri, by contrast, he argued played more in a cohesive way. They did this by acting aggressively and as a unit in and out of possession.

Sacchi continues to apply this way of thinking, though in the last three derbies it has been Inter who have dominated.

Ex-Rossoneri coach Sacchi feels that his old team must stick to their guns tonight.

Arrigo Sacchi: Inter Milan Play “Italian” Football

“Milan, who have not made the kind of financial investment that Inter have and don’t have the same kind of experience as the Nerazzurri squad, have to focus on ‘moral’ values,” the former Rossoneri coach suggested.

“Inter play a very ‘Italian” style of football, and in the recent period they’ve done so very well,” he added.

“Milan, in order to contain their opponent, have to block their intentions right from the start,” Sacchi argued. “They have to fight for every ball, they can’t leave spaces for the fullbacks or forwards to run into. They must not concede the weapon of the counterattack.”

For Sacchi, Milan need to stick to what got them their most recent derby win.

The former Rossoneri coach believes that his former side have to impose themselves as a collective if they’re to come back.
