Inter Milan defender Matteo Darmian is thankful for the role that being at Man United for four seasons played in shaping him.

Speaking to UK broadcaster Sky Sports, via FCInterNews, the 33-year-old spoke briefly about his time at the Red Devils after helping the Nerazzurri to the Champions League final with a win against city rivals AC Milan in the semifinals.

Darmian will play in the Champions League final for the first time next month.

It has been a long and winding road for the Italian international.

Darmian has found his home at Inter, where he has so far won the Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, and two Supercoppa Italiana trophies. More titles could await the Italian at the climax of this season.

However, the defender also had a stint in the Premier League.

“I thank Man United for the role they played in shaping me into the person I am today,” Darmian said. “If I’m who I am right now, it’s partly because of them.”

He then noted that “Today I’m all Inter, though. I give everything for Inter.”

Darmian joined Manchester United in 2015. Four excellent seasons at Torino had been enough to convince the Red Devils, who signed him on a four-year deal.

In his first season, Darmian won the FA Cup with the Red Devils. The Italian came on in the second half of the final against Crystal Palace, which United won in extra time.

In his second, the Italian helped United to a Europa League triumph under Jose Mourinho. Darmian started the final of that competition, a 2-0 win over Ajax.

In truth, however, Darmian never quite settled in in the English top flight.

After four mixed season, the defender returned to Serie A. It was Parma who gave Darmian his chance.

One excellent season in Emilia-Romagna was all it took to convince Inter to sign Darmian.

In his first ever season at the Nerazzurri, Darmian played an important role in the Nerazzurri winning the Scudetto under Antonio Conte. And he has not looked back.

“I’m very happy we’re in the final,” he said after the Nerazzurri reached the Champions League final. “Now we’ll think about the next match, and then try to win the final.”
