Striker Lautaro Martinez has come in for praise for playing a leading role in Inter Milan reaching the Champions League final.

The 25-year-old Argentine was hailed in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The Newspaper describe Martinez as having taken “command” of the semifinal tie against AC Milan.

Heading into the closing stages of yesterday’s Milan derby, Inter will still have had plenty of nerves. A two-goal advantage was solid, but left plenty of room for late surprises.

Accordingly, Martinez’s goal was vital to finally put the tie to bed. Once the Argentine found the back of the net, it became clear – Inter will play in the Champions League final in Istanbul.

Moreover, the Argentine did a lot more than just score.

All evening, Martinez caused problems for the Rossoneri backline with his movement and battling holdup play. The goal was only the cherry on top for the 25-year-old’s display.

Lautaro Martinez Leads The Way Among Inter Milan Players

For the Gazzetta, Martinez’s performance was worthy of a score of 7.5/10 in the player ratings for yesterday’s match. The newspaper argue that the striker was the best player on the pitch.

However, the Argentine was not the only Inter player to receive that score.

All of wingback Denzel Dumfries, defender Francesco Acerbi, and midfielder Nicolo Barella also received 7.5/10 grades.

It was a hard-fought performance from the Nerazzurri, and every player gave their contribution, though. This is reflected in the Gazzetta’s player ratings on the whole – there are no negative scores for Inter players.

Whilst Joaquin Correa and Roberto Gagliardini came on too late to be given grades, no one’s score dipped below 6.5/10.

Meanwhile, coach Simone Inzaghi‘s score was higher than any player. The Gazzetta awarded the 47-year-old an exceptional grade of 8/10 for masterminding the derby win.
