Racing Club President Victor Blanco feels that Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez can emulate ex-Nerazzurri and Racing striker Diego Milito.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportItalia, via FCInterNews, the Racing President backed the 25-year-old striker for great things.

Martinez played a big part in getting Inter to the Champions League final. The Argentine’s goal against Milan wrapped up a place in the final out of the derby semifinal tie.

Moreover, the 25-year-old’s battling display was emblematic of everything that Inter have done to reach this point.

This has naturally led to comparisons to another former Inter striker. Like Martinez, Milito played for Racing Club in his early years.

Unlike Martinez, however, Milito was Inter’s hero in a Champions League final, rather than a semifinal. The iconic former striker scored twice in a 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in 2010.

However, Martinez will have his chance. Inter will play in the final next month, and the 25-year-old World Cup winner could leave his imprint.

Racing Club President Backs Lautaro Martinez To Follow Diego Milito’s Lead

Racing Club President Blanco had no doubt. “Without question, he is following in the footsteps of Diego Miltio,” the Racing President said.

Of former Racing striker Martinez’s goal against Milan yesterday, he said that “That goal and this incredible finish to the season brings great joy to all of us here at Racing.”

“We have never had any doubts about his quality or his footballing ability,” he went on.

Blanco admitted that “Personally, seeing Lautaro being decisive in the semifinal of the Champions League, and going to play in the final fills me with pride.”

“El Toro truly deserves this gift,” he continued.

As for the final in Istanbul, Blanco also had no doubt.

“Lautaro will be decisive as always!” the Racing President said. “With goals or assists.”
