Chelsea-owned striker Romelu Lukaku is pushing to earn his place at Inter Milan next season.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Belgian wants to use the five remaining matches of the season to make sure that the Nerazzurri take him back on loan next campaign.

Lukaku’s future at Inter remains a matter of significant uncertainty.

The 30-year-old’s loan from Chelsea runs out at the end of next month. Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Lukaku will return to the Blues when his loan ends.

However, what happens after that is a matter for the clubs to discuss.

Lukaku could well stay at Chelsea next season, particularly if incoming Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to work with him.

However, the Nerazzurri could also decide to try and bring Lukaku back another season. In that case, the two clubs would have to try and negotiate a new deal for the striker.

Romelu Lukaku Wants To Cement His Place At Inter Milan

According to the Gazzetta, there is no doubt that Lukaku wants to stay.

To do this, the Belgian will have to try and prove that he will be a major contributor. He still has five matches left in which to do so.

So far this season, Lukaku’s form has been badly affected by injuries. However, now the Chelsea-owned striker is fully fit and looking something resembling his best.

If the 30-year-old can keep his recent form up, it could be very difficult for the Nerazzurri’s directors to allow him to go back to Chelsea.

The Gazzetta notes that Lukaku has Inter’s remaining three Serie A matches to prove himself. The Nerazzurri face Napoli, Atalanta, and Torino.

Then, Inter have the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina and the Champions League final against Manchester City.

If Lukaku can make an impact to win the Nerazzurri silverware, he could finally cement his place for next season.
