Legendary former Nerazzurri, Real Madrid, Roma, and Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano feels that Inter Milan have made a “masterpiece” in the Champions League but a “disaster” in Serie A this season.

Speaking on his Instagram account, via FCInterNews, Cassano contrasted Inter’s form in Europe and in the league.

Whilst Inter now look in the driver’s seat for a top four spot in Serie A, this is really the minimum objective.

There is little hiding the fact that the Nerazzurri’s league campaign has been a disapointment.

Eleven matches lost looks massive for a team who were considered among the pre-season title favourites.

In the Champions League, Inter have also performed differently than most people expected them to. However, here it has been a much more positive divergence from expectations.

Cassano has cast some aspersions on the idea that Inter’s Champions League campaign can redeem their seasons. However, even he has to admit that it’s been a “masterpiece” from the Nerazzurri in Europe’s biggest competition.

Cassano: Inter Milan Brilliant In UCL, Subpar In Serie A

Cassano said of the Nerazzurri’s progression to the Champions League final that “Inter deserved to go through.”

“In the first leg they dominated, were dominant. They had 7-8 chances and the margin of victory could have been wider.”

“In the return leg Milan had no attacking threat,” he noted. “They created two sporadic situations with Leao and Diaz.”

“What the Rossoneri have done is exceptional, now they’ll have to invest more.”

“As for the Nerazzurri, I say that they’ve made achieved a masterpiece in the Champions League,” Cassano said. “Partly thanks to a lucky draw. Meanwhile the league has been a disaster, it’s been night and day.”

The former forward noted that “The final will be tough, let’s see what happens.”

“As an Inter fan, I’m crossing my fingers.”
