Legendary former Inter Milan President Massimo Moratti feels that the Nerazzurri have avenged the 2003 Champions League semifinal loss to AC Milan.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the former Nerazzurri President also praised the job done by coach Simone Inzaghi.

Few could ignore the parallels between this season’s Champions League Milan derby and that of 2003.

During the 2002-03 season, Inter and AC Milan had also met at the same stage of the competition. On that occasion, it was the Rossoneri who prevailed.

Milan went on to win the final that season, against Juventus.

This time around, however, things went different. Inter were the team to go onto the Champions League final, in which they’ll face Manchester City.

For his part, former President Moratti feels that Inter got some measure of revenge.

Moratti: Inter Milan Got Revenge On AC Milan For 2003

Asked if he considers this revenge for the elimination of 2003, Moratti replied “Certainly.”

“The same thing was up for grabs, at that time it went badly, this time it went well.”

“I would say very well, in fact, in the sense that there was no doubt which team deserved to reach the final,” he continued.

Of what Inter being back in the Champions League final represents to him, Moratti said that “It’s a immensely satisfying. An immense joy to see the fans so happy, and in any event being among the top two teams in Europe is wonderful to see.”

“Being able to participate in the final makes us very proud.”

Moratti also spoke about Inzaghi as coach.

“I have to say that if one looks at his progress in the league, he can only be disappointed by the eleven defeats,” the former President said.

“I myself, to be very honest, was against Inzaghi. But if you look what he’s done in the cup competitions, it’s miraculous.”

“The team has not only played well, but with the right character and attitude to reach the final.”

“Massive congratulations, he’s put any doubts that I had about him to rest.”
