Striker Romelu Lukaku is likely to be benched for Inter Milan in Wednesday evening’s Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that Edin Dzeko will start the match in attack.

Lukaku is hoping to end the season with Inter in the past way possible.

The 30-year-old Belgian international reportedly wants to start both the Coppa Italia and Champions League finals.

Moreover, Lukaku’s recent form in Serie A could make a compelling case for that.

The Belgian was on the scoresheet yesterday against Napoli. It was in vain as the Nerazzurri went on to lose that match 3-1, but Lukaku’s goal was another reminder that he is finally back to being something close to his lethal best in front of goal.

Accordingly, there have been one or two suggestions that Simone Inzaghi could be tempted to use Lukaku more. The timing of the 30-year-old’s resurgence of form at the climax of the season when Inter are fighting for silverware is certainly eye-catching.

Romelu Lukaku Not Likely To Start For Inter Vs Fiorentina

Nevertheless, the Gazzetta reports, Inzaghi is likely to persist with his policy of rotation in attack.

In recent matches, Lukaku and Joaquin Correa have started on the weekend. Then, in midweek, Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko have started.

This has typically meant that Lukaku and Correa are the starting pair in Serie A. Meanwhile, Martinez and Dzeko have been given the nod in cup competitions.

The Inter coach has not hesitate to rotate his team heavily from match to match during the packed fixture list.

According to the Gazzetta, Inzaghi is not going to break this policy on Wednesday.

Against La Viola at the Stadio Olimpico, they anticipate that Dzeko will be the one to start ahead of Lukaku.
