Inter Milan have won the Coppa Italia for the 9th time after a 2-1 win over Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.

The Nerazzurri started the game off dreadfully when the entire defence collectively went to sleep. Jonathan Ikoné took advantage and threaded a ball for Nico Gonzalez who made no mistake in the third minute.

In the 24th minute Lautaro Martinez played Edin Dzeko through on goal but the Bosnian’s finish was dreadful. Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terraciano didn’t need to make a save as Dzeko’s finish was nowhere near the goal.

Argentinian FIFA World Cup winner Lautaro Martinez equalized five minutes later when he buried a wonderful Marcelo Brozovic pass.

Some eight minutes later Man Of The Match Lautaro Martinez bagged his brace when scoring a stunning volley from a good Nicolo Barella cross.

Inter Milan Win 9th Coppa Italia Title

In the second half Fiorentina pushed forward creating chance after chance but failing to score the equalizer. In all honesty this was more down to poor finishing by Luka Jovic than thanks to Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

The Nerazzurri captain did not have a good game and did not impress in what could be his last match for Inter. Handanovic’s contract expires at the end of this coming June and has received no contract extension offer.

However, the game ended 2-1 and Inter coach Simone Inzaghi won his seventh consecutive one off final.

This was Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s fourth title since taking over the Nerazzurri hot seat having won the Supercoppa Italiana 2021 and 2022.

Simone Inzaghi also led Inter to the club’s eighth Coppa Italia title last season after a 4-2 win over Juventus.

It is also the Nerazzurri coach’s third Coppa Italia title overall. Inzaghi won his first whilst in charge of Lazio in 2018/2019 season defeating Atalanta 2-0 in the final.

This was Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano’s first Coppa Italia final. He and the Viola can still win a trophy this season.

Fiorentina play West Ham in the 2023 Conference League Final at the Fortuna Arena in Prague. Final will be played on Wednesday June 7th with kick-off scheduled at 21.00 CET.
