A close bond with coach Simone Inzaghi has played a big role in Steven Zhang enjoying success as President of Inter Milan over the past couple of seasons.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, after Inzaghi and Zhang picked up yet another piece of silverware in the form of a second straight Coppa Italia trophy.

Zhang has now won five trophies as Inter President. This takes him to third in the list of all-time most successful Presidents of the club, in terms of trophies won.

The only two men ahead of Zhang are club icons Angelo and Massimo Moratti.

Zhang Benefits From Friendship With Inzaghi At Inter Milan

In the view of the Gazzetta, Zhang owes an enormous amount to Inzaghi for getting him where he is.

The President won his first ever trophy as Inter president with the Serie A title in the 2020-21 season. That was with Antonio Conte as head coach.

However, after Conte stepped down, the Nerazzurri looked for a suitable replacement. Zhang, as well as the club directors, settled on appointing Inzaghi from Lazio.

Inzaghi has proven to fit Inter like a glove.

Not only are the 47-year-old’s style of play and working methods well-suited to the squad, but he keeps things calm behind the scenes.

Even though there has been an enormous amount of pressure, and at times chaos, Inter have stayed on a steady course.

Zhang has always been known to enjoy a good relationship with Inzaghi. Moreover, the President has been the first to back the coach when rumours about his future have flown.

Now, the Nerazzurri President is reaping the benefit of that rapport with his coach.

Inter can count on a coach who is, particularly in cup competitions, perfectly adept at getting the job done. Moreover, they enjoy the stability that comes from coach feeling secure at the club.

Particularly when support come from his President.
