Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni feels that the Nerazzurri’s comeback win against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia final showed the team’s resilience and ability to bounce back from setbacks.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, via FCInterNews, the 23-year-old praised the team’s ability to react after they went behind early on.

Inter did not get off to the start they’ll have wanted against Fiorentina.

A goal from Viola winger Nico Gonzalez caught the Nerazzurri out after they’d gotten off to a sluggish start.

Then, this seemed to put further wind in Fiorentina’s sails. Vincenzo Italiano’s team pressed Inter and prevented them from ever getting into a rhythm.

However, the Nerazzurri eventually found their foothold in the match.

Then, two goals from Lautaro Martinez saw the Nerazzurri go in at halftime with the script completely flipped.

In the second half, Inter had a lot of work to do to protect the advantage they’d given themselves. La Viola put the Nerazzurri goal under pressure for long periods, particularly as the final whistle drew closer.

There were a few scares for Inter, but they were able to dig their heels in resolutely. Then, the Nerazzurri saw out the match.

Having looked rattled early on, Inter found their way back in, and were rewarded with their second Coppa Italia trophy in as many seasons.

Bastoni: Inter Showed They Can React Vs Fiorentina

“We didn’t have the best of starts,” Bastoni admitted. “Usually we approach the start of matches very well.”

“That wasn’t the case today, but that was a further test for us,” he suggested. “We showed everyone that we know how to react during difficulties.”

“We’ve brought home another trophy, we’re very happy.”

“I give my compliments to Fiorentina, because they’ve shown themselves to be a great team,” Bastoni added.

“Now we have to focus on Atalanta, and then we’ll think about the most important match of the season,” he added. Inter are less than three weeks from facing Manchester City in the Champions League final.

Bastoni continued that “We saw that at the beginning of the season that we were struggling to react to difficulties.”

“Especially from January onwards, we’ve made ourselves more compact, and we’ve achieved great goals, such as reaching the Champions League final and this trophy tonight,” he added. “We’re really happy.”
