Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu is hoping to get congratulatory messages after the Champions League final and not just for winning the Coppa Italia.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old expressed his hopes regarding Istanbul next month.

Inter have now successfully won one of the two trophies on offer at the end of the season.

The Nerazzurri came from a goal down to dispatch Fiorentina in the final of the Coppa Italia. This is the second season in a row in which Inter have won the competition.

However, there is an even more important piece of silverware to fight for before the season is over.

Hakan Calhanoglu Hopes Inter Milan Can Follow Coppa Italia Triumph With UCL Win

Inter will face Manchester City in less than three weeks’ time. At stake will be European club football’s biggest prize.

Asked about the congratulatory messages that he’s already received for winning the Coppa Italia, Calhanoglu replied that “I hope to receive them after Istanbul too.”

Of the final against La Viola, Calhanoglu said that “Fiorentina played very well.

“It was a tricky match, but in the end we won and we’re happy. We’re happy to have won the trophy,” he continued.

“We always want to aim to win everything we can. Today we succeeded, but on Saturday we have to think about a difficult match against Atalanta,” the midfielder added.

Of the Champions League final, Calhanoglu predicted that “It’ll be a tough match where we’ll have to suffer. But we believe in it,” he said of the final. “We’ve believed it since after Barcelona.

“I have a dream to chase, now we’re in the final and let’s see what happens.”

Asked where he stands compared to midfielders like Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne and Real Madrid’s Luka Modric, Calhnaoglu replied that “I don’t know, I’ve improved in this role.”

“I like to grow and improve with the help of our staff, who help me do so.”

“We have great players across our midfield unit, including Asllani who’s starting to arrive,” he added.
