Fiorentina 1 – 2 Inter Milan Player Ratings: 8/10 Lautaro Martinez MOTM As Inter Retain Coppa Italia Title

Inter Milan beat Fiorentina 2-1 in the Coppa Italia Final in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, after a porr defensive display overall but a MOTM performance by Lautaro Martinez worthy of a captain, something reflected in the SempreInter.com Inter Milan player ratings.

Simone Inzaghi’s Inter are Coppa Italia champions once again after a dramatic win over Fiorentina thanks to a brace from MOTM Lautaro Martinez.

The Nerazzurri started the game dreadfully when the entire defence went to sleep all at once. Jonathan Ikoné threaded the ball through for Nico Gonzalez to break the deadlock in the third minute.

In the 24th minute Lautaro Martinez played Edin Dzeko through on goal but the Bosnian’s finish was dreadful. Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terraciano didn’t need to make a save as Dzeko’s finish was nowhere near the goal.

Argentinian FIFA World Cup winner Lautaro Martinez equalized five minutes later when he buried a wonderful Marcelo Brozovic pass.

Some eight minutes later Man Of The Match Lautaro Martinez bagged his brace when scoring a stunning volley from a good Nicolo Barella cross.

MOTM Lautaro Martinez Brace Enough For Inter To Retain Coppa Italia

In the second half Fiorentina pushed forward creating chance after chance but failing to score the equalizer. In all honesty this was more down to poor finishing by Luka Jovic than thanks to Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

The Nerazzurri captain didn’t have a good game at all in what could be his last match for Inter. Handanovic’s contract expires at the end of this coming June and has received no contract extension offer.

However, the game ended 2-1 and Inter coach Simone Inzaghi won his sixth consecutive one off final.

Inter Milan Player Ratings Vs Fiorentina – Lautaro Martinez MOTM

Samir Handanovic (C) – 5/10: The first rating is for another shaky and poor performance. The second one is for his long service to the club. Thank you and all the best.

Matteo Darmian – 6: Dependable, calm and controlled as always in the defensive phase. Probably the best Inter defender on a night when Inter’s defense wasn’t very good.

Francesco Acerbi – 6: Didn’t have a good game. In fact opening 20 minutes were dreadful. But he grew into the game and showed leadership.

Alessandro Bastoni – 6: Struggled just like the entire defense in the start of the game but improved. Especially defensively, the more the game went on.

Denzel Dumfries – 6,5: Another solid defensive performance by the Dutchman who in the last 6-8 weeks has shown defensive solidity and maturity.

Nicolo Barella – 6,5: Looked uncomfortable for most of the match, just like most of his teammates but his lowest level is so ridiculously high now, a hallmark of a world class player.

Marcelo Brozovic – 6,5: Dreadful start to the game but then turned on the style. Especially in the first half where his assist for Lautaro’s equalizer was beautiful.

Hakan Calhanoglu – 7: What a complete midfielder he’s become last two years. Barely put a foot wrong defensively. Will have to repeat this defensive work rate in Istanbul.

Federico Dimarco – 5,5: Not his best performance in either phase. Was jogging instead of running back when Fiorentina took the lead. Offensively more miss than hit.

Lautaro Martinez (MOTM) – 8: Samir Handanovic may have worn the armband, Milan Skriniar could have had it but Lautaro Martinez must now wear it from now on. World class.

Edin Dzeko – 5: Nothing represents just how awfully poor his performance was more than that dreadful miss when alone with Terraciano. Can’t start against Man City.

Substitutes

Stefan de Vrij – 7: Brought on for Bastoni in the 58th minute and produced another good match to confirm his good form these last few matches. Great option off the bench.

Romelu Lukaku – 6,5: Replaced Dzeko in the 58th minute and worked so hard to help give his teammates some breathing space when Fiorentina pushed like crazy.

Robin Gosens – 6Came on for Dimarco in the 68th minute and was an upgrade defensively but struggled going forward as demonstrated by the open goal he missed.

Roberto Gagliardini – N/A: Substituted on for Hakan Calhanoglu in 83rd minute and didn’t play long enough to be able to be rated.

Joaquin Correa – N/A: Was brought on for Lautaro Martinez in the 84th minute and didn’t play long enough to be rated.

Manager

Simone Inzaghi – 6,5: Visibly angry for large parts of the game with his players and showed it with the Dzeko substitution who was not happy to be brought off. Cup specialist.

Referee

Massimiliano Irrati – 6: Made minor mistakes throughout but they were consistent in that he kept the same level of physicality throughout which is the most important thing.

Team Performance

Inter – 6: The 4th trophy of the Simone Inzaghi era won. Not a good performance but showed ability to win despite suffering: A good dress rehearsal ahead of Istanbul.
