Former Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus striker Aldo Serena feels that Romelu Lukaku should start against Man City.
Speaking to Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Serena argued that it should be the Belgian rather than Edin Dzeko who partners Lautaro Martinez in attack in the Champions League final next month.
The question of who starts in attack looks to be Simone Inzaghi’s big selection dilemma against Man City.
It’s been reported that Edin Dzeko is the favourite to start.
Even in spite of Lukaku’s outstanding recent form in Serie A, the Inter coach could continue turning to the Bosnian. Dzeko has been the starter in all knockout matches so far.
Reportedly, tactical reasons are at the heart of Inzaghi’s thinking in this resepect.
Serena: Romelu Lukaku Should Start Vs Man City
For his part, however, former striker Serena isn’t so sure.
He argued that “If City press and prove that they can suffocate Inter, I’d like to have the physicality of Lukaku in the final.”
He called the 30-year-old “Someone who is able to hold the ball up. Who lets the team breathe and adds physicality to the attack.”
“Lautaro adapts well to every teammate in any event,” Serena continued. “I say this not to take anything away from Dzeko, who’s had yet another great season at the age of 37.”
Serena also praised the playing style of Martinez.
“He almost looks like one of the formula one cars from back in the day with miniskirts on the sides,” the former striker said of the Argentine.
“He plants himself on the ground,” he continued. “He defends the ball well and rarely loses it in the tackle.”
“He’s not tall, he combines a low centre of gravity with quick movements that surprise his opponents.”
“And then he’s certainly demonstrated what he can do in the penalty area on several occasions,” he added of Martinez.
