Striker Edin Dzeko is likely to start ahead of Romelu Lukaku for Inter Milan in the Champions League final against Man City due to tactical reasons.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews.

One thing that looks abundantly clear is that Lautaro Martinez will be one of Inter’s two strikers against City next month.

Much less certain, however, is who may start alongside the Argentine.

Belgian international Lukaku is keen to do so. However, reports suggest that, at the moment at least, Dzeko is still the favourite.

The former Roma and Manchester City man has been the starter in knockout matches all throughout the season. Whilst not all of his performances have been at his best, he has been decisive against AC Milan in the Champions League.

On the other hand, Lukaku has also been staking a claim for himself with his recent performances.

The 30-year-old has been in blistering goalscoring form in Serie A recently. And if he keeps this outstanding league form up, he could give Simone Inzaghi a real tough decision.

Dzeko To Start For Inter Vs Man City For Tactical Reasons

Nevertheless, the Corriere della Sera report, Dzeko is still ahead of his teammate in the pecking order for Istanbul.

The reason for this, the newspaper suggests, is tactical.

Whilst Lukaku is a player who can give City’s backline more worry on the counterattack, he is not a striker who tends to drop back and get involved in buildup play as much as the Bosnian.

Dzeko, by contrast, has no problem joining up with the midfield.

In the final against City, preventing getting outnumbered easily by the Cityzens will be key for Inter.

Accordingly, the Corriere della Sera suggests, Inzaghi is still likely to opt for Dzeko again.

Lukaku, however, is certainly seen by the coach as a potent weapon off the bench.
