Italian journalist Luca Marchetti feels that Simone Inzaghi deserves credit for getting Inter Milan playing at their best at the decisive moment of the season.

Writing in a column for TuttoMercatoWeb, the journalist highlighted how the coach has gotten the Nerazzurri to crest in form.

After a very up-and-down season, Inter have been playing some of their best football in the past few weeks.

The Nerazzurri won the Coppa Italia against Fiorentina on Wednesday. They have also hauled themselves back into the top four of the Serie A table.

Then, next month there will be the Champions League final against Manchester City.

Inter have the opportunity to end the season in glory.

Much of this is down to the fact that, instead of looking worn-out in the final months of a gruelling campaign, Inter have gotten a new spring in their steps.

Some of this is down to Inzaghi’s rotation of the squad. The ex-Lazio coach has insisted on heavy turnover in the starting eleven from week to week.

This has seemingly kept much of the squad playing at a high level. Injuries have also not been a fatal problem for this Inter team down the stretch.

Inzaghi’s staff have also drawn praise for their work with the team. It is thanks to the tireless work behind the scenes that a consistent level has been maintained rather than the team peaking too early and then burning out.

Marchetti: Simone Inzaghi Has Inter Milan Peaking At Just The Right Time

Italian journalist Marchetti writes that “Inter have taken the Coppa home. Simone still knows how to do it.”

“And now their assault begins on another trophy,” he continues. “The one that matters even more, and which is an opportunity for Inter.”

Marchetti observes that “Winning helps you win. And Inter need to win.”

He argues that the Nerazzurri need victories “To consolidate the project, to understand how to continue it, to give Simone Inzaghi even more confidence.”

“And this win, these finals, should serve to do just that,” he writes of the Coppa Italia final.

“It makes it clear that the project is to be judged based on the long term, not just based on results.”

“Inzaghi deserves great credit not just for guiding Inter through a difficult moment,” Marchetti continues, “particularly in terms of results.”

“But also for getting his team in top condition to face the decisive final run-in of the season.”

“Now Inter will try to do something special in Istanbul, to make history,” Marchetti writes. “Even if a good part of the story has already been written.”

“Inter are celebrating tonight,” he writes of the Nerazzurri in the aftermath of beating Fiorentina. “They’re celebrating a trophy, the second of their season.”

“They’re celebrating, then getting ready to push to qualify for the Champions League next season. Then the final.”

“Everything is growing, just like the form of this Nerazzurri,” Marchetti concludes. “And like the smile of their fans, which is only growing wider and wider.”
