Inter Milan would only be able to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic if they first make a big sale.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that there would have to be a major departure from the Nerazzurri’s midfield if they are to move for the 28-year-old, who is rated at €40 million and is also a target for Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Midfielder Milinkovic-Savic looks set to leave Lazio after eight seasons with the club from the Italian capital.

The reason for this is the Serbian international’s contract – Milnikovic-Savic’s deal with the Biancocelesti runs out at the end of next June.

Given that the midfielder doesn’t look set to pen an extension, Lazio will look to sell him this summer. The Biancocelesti want to cash in while they have the chance.

Inter Milan Must Sell To Buy Seregej Milinkovic-Savic

As to where Milinkovic-Savic will go, FCIN note that there is plenty of interest from Serie A.

However, each club who is interested in the Serb would seem to face an obstacle.

In the case of Juventus, contacts have been ongoing with Milinkovic-Savic’s agent for some time. The 28-year-old would be an ideal replacement for Adrien Rabiot whose contract expires at the end of next month.

However, the Bianconeri’s current legal troubles off the pitch and uncertainty about their future complicate their pursuit of Milinkovic-Savic.

Meanwhile, AC Milan are also keen on the Lazio midfielder. However, a move would hardly be financially within reach for the Rossoneri.

The same is more or less true for Inter. Whilst Lazio could go down from the €40 million price tag they’ve set for Milinkovic-Savic, they would not do so by much. Moreover, the Biancocelesti aren’t interested in players going the other way – just a straight cash offer.

Accordingly the only way Inter would likely be able to afford a move for Milinkovic-Savic would be by making a sale of a midfielder already in the squad.

Roberto Gagliardini will leave on a free transfer. However, Milinkovic-Savic will hardly arrive on a big fee to replace Gagliardini like-for-like.

Accordingly, the Premier League could be a likelier destination for Milinkovic-Savic.

FCIN report that Arsenal and Newcastle have both registered an interest in the Serb’s signature.
