Inter Milan are accelerating contract extension talks with striker Edin Dzeko.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri are getting closer and closer to an agreement with the Bosnian former Roma and Manchester City striker on a new one-year deal, although there are some details left to be ironed out.

Contract talks between Inter and Dzeko have been ongoing for some time now.

At present, the 37-year-old sees his deal run out at the end of next month.

Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri want to keep hold of Dzeko for at least one more season. The Bosnian remains an important contributor for Inter on the pitch this season.

According to FCIN, the main stumbling block that remains in talks between Inter and Dzeko is wages. More specifically, Inter are offering wages of €5 million net in total including add-ons, whilst the player wants €5 million net plus add-ons.

However, FCIN report, there is not too much distance to make up. The outlet reports that with the inclusion of some fairly easy-to-trigger add-ons, an agreement could be reached.

Inter Milan Close To Wrapping Up Edin Dzeko Contract Extension Talks

According to FCIN, the Nerazzurri do not want to wait around much longer.

Now that it is certain that Inter will qualify for next season’s Champions League, there is little reason to delay getting a new deal for the Bosnian wrapped up.

Accordingly, an agreement shouldn’t be too far away.

FCIN report that over the next few days Inter are ready to finish up the talks to finalize the agreement. Then it would only be a matter of putting pen to paper and making the announcement.

Dzeko, who joined from Roma in the summer of 2021, has been a regular starter for Inter over the past two seasons.

He has made 49 appearances in all competitions this season, the same as he did last time around.

Dzeko is currently reported to be the favourite to start in attack in the Champions League final against his old team Manchester City.
