Inter Milan wingback Robin Gosens and midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan are both staking their claim to start against Man City.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that Romelu Lukaku is not the only Nerazzurri player who will be hoping to break into the starting eleven for next month’s Champions League final.

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi’s big decision for the Champions League final has always looked to be in attack.

Edin Dzeko remains favourite to start alongside Lautaro Martinez. However, Lukaku has been more and more insistent in making his case.

The Belgian’s blistering form in Serie A over the last month or so certainly gives Inzaghi something to think about.

Even though Dzeko has started every knockout match so far, the feeling is that Lukaku has a good chance.

The Gazzetta note that Inzaghi’s decision will be a tactical one as much as anything. If the coach decides to go with a strategy of sitting deep and hitting City on the counterattack, then Lukaku would give the team more of an outlet to get forward very quickly.

Gosens & Mkhitaryan Both Want To Start Vs Man City

Lukaku isn’t the only Inter player who could favour a more counterattacking game against City, however.

Wingback Robin Gosens would also be suited to such a strategy.

Federico Dimarco remains the clear favourite to start against City, as he has done in all Inter’s knockout matches in the competition. However, Gosens would give the team more pace and athleticism in counterattacking situations compared to the 25-year-old.

Accordingly, the 28-year-old German international will do everything he can to convince Inzaghi to spring a surprise on the left flank.

Meanwhile, former Roma and Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is expected to return to training soon.

During the 34-year-old’s absence with a thigh problem, Marcelo Brozovic has been back in the starting midfield trio.

However, with Mkhitaryan fit again, he will be keen to regain his starting place.
