Inter Milan Vice-President Javier Zanetti feels that even though Man City are considered by many to be the overwhelming favourites in the upcoming Champions League final, Inter Milan are more than capable of winning it.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri Vice-President opened up ahead of the final.

Facing a team like City will certainly not be easy.

Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens are widely regarded as, if not the best team in Europe, certainly very close.

In recent weeks, Inter have looked at their very best.

Despite a gruelling season in which the Nerazzurri have had bouts of poor form, Simone Inzaghi looks to have gotten the team ticking at just the right time.

Zanetti Confident: Man City Favourites, But Inter Milan Can Win

Zanetti argued that “Everyone thinks that Man City are big favourites. But Inter have what it takes to win.”

“They’re a team to be respected,” he continued. “But we’re here on merit too. In a one-off match, anything can happen.”

Inter have seemingly crested in form just as the climax of the season is hitting.

Partly, this is down to the management of the team physically. Inter’s physical condition has looked as good in recent weeks as it ever has.

Then, there is the mental side of the game.

Inzaghi has always imbued this team with a certain calmness, and this has led to a newfound confidence and self-belief at a period when many other teams have looked mentally worn-down.

Inter’s squad are also highly experienced.

Certainly, having an aging squad can come with many drawbacks. However, experience is certainly a more positive side of having so many veterans in the team.

Players like Edin Dzeko and Matteo Darmian have just about seen it all. There is a solid core of this Inter team who won’t be unduly phased by what they’re up against in Istanbul.
