Former Inter Milan defender Fulvio Collovati expects Milan Skriniar to play a key role against Man City in the Champions League final.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Collovati suggested that even though the Slovakian won’t start the match, he can have an important part to play as a substitute.

The 28-year-old is back in training ahead of tomorrow’s Serie A match against Torino. He may well feature against the Granata. Then, Skriniar will be a part of the squad to face Man City.

However, there are big questions around whether or not the Slovakian will be truly match-fit against City.

Milan Skriniar has only played one game for Inter since February. He came on as a substitute in the Champions League round of last 16 second leg against Porto.

The defender came on for a cameo role late in that match. In the view of Collovati, however, Skriniar could well do the same against City.

Inter Could Call On Skriniar From The Bench Vs Man City

Of Skriniar’s situation being part of the final, Collovati said that “It strikes me as a great show of respect for him from the club and the coach. Because he’s clearly out of the project now.”

“Not to mention that Darmian has proven to be up to the task of taking his place,” he continued. “Which gives the team security and has solved a significant problem.”

“We can’t forget how important he was for Inter for the last few years,” Collovati said of Skriniar.

“Clearly he can only play for part of the match. But just look at the Roma-Sevilla final to reiterate how important substitutions and squad depth are.”

“Against an attack as strong as City’s, there’s always the risk of a few bookings that can weigh on defenders,” he noted.

“So having a highly experienced substitute option like Skriniar can definitely be useful.”
