Torino will not be lacking any motivation in this evening’s Serie A clash – the Granata can secure a Europa Conference League spot for themselves if they are to beat Inter Milan.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Currently, Torino are sitting ninth in the Serie A table.
Fiorentina had moved ahead of the Granata by beating Sassuolo in their final match of the season yesterday.
However, Torino are within three points of La Viola. Moreover, if they were to finish level with the Tuscans on points, they would go ahead of them by virtue of their superior head-to-head record.
Torino Can Secure Conference League Football With Win Vs Inter Milan
If Torino were to finish ahead of Fiorentina, this would be very significant for them.
It would mean that the Granata would finish eighth. This may be enough to give the Piedmontese club European football next season.
The reason for this is that Juventus could be barred from European competition next season.
Should Torino’s city rivals the Bianconeri be excluded in this manner, it would open up a European spot. Thus, the eighth place spot in the Serie A table would be enough for next season’s Europa Conference League.
Granata coach Ivan Juric will be well aware of the opportunity that his represents for he and his players.
It has not always been a consistent season for Torino. However, they are finishing it off strongly, and could be rewarded with European football.
All of this, however, is dependent on beating Inter this evening.
Moreover, Torino will also feel Monza and Bologna breathing down their necks. Both of the pair are currently just a point or two behind the Granata.
Accordingly, beating Inter would make sure that the Granata don’t slip into the bottom half of the table.
