AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic feels that Inter Milan are the strongest team in Serie A, at least on paper.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, the Swede gave his thoughts on the Rossoneri’s elimination from the Champions League at the hands of the Nerazzurri from the semifinal stage.

Inter have faced city rivals Milan on five occasions now this season.

Whilst the Rossoneri had won the first league meeting, having already won the Serie A title over Inter last season, ever since then it has been four straight wins from Inter.

First, the Nerazzurri won the Supercoppa Italiana by a 3-0 scoreline. Then, in the second league meeting, the Nerazzurri prevailed 1-0.

In truth, the 1-0 scoreline didn’t really do justice to how one-sided the match had been.

Next up, the two derby rivals faced in a two-legged tie in the Champions League semifinals.

Inter won both legs. In the first, they beat Milan 2-0 with two early goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Then, in the second, a second half goal by Lautaro Martinez sealed the win.

Ibrahimovic: Inter Milan The Strongest Team In Serie A

Looking back on the tie against Inter, Rossoneri striker Ibrahimovic stated that “Inter are the strongest team in Italy, at least on paper.”

“They have much more experience, and players who were more ready for that stage than Milan.”

“Which is not an excuse,” the 41-year-old noted. “There are no excuses.”

“Because then when you play eleven against eleven, you can always go for it. But they did better than us.”

And asked if he’ll be rooting for anyone in the final, Ibrahimovic replied that “I can’t root for anyone.”

“Because I play for Milan, and Inter are in the final. And I played for Man United, and City are in the final.”

“I just hope it’s a good match,” the striker added.
