Inter Milan Vice-President Javier Zanetti believes that both the Nerazzurri and Man City are the two teams who deserve to be in the Champions League final this season.

Speaking to UEFA Champions League Magazine, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri executive gave his thoughts on the upcoming final.

After all the qualification rounds, group stage, and knockouts, just two teams are left in Europe’s top club competition.

Inter and Man City will go head-to-head in Istanbul next weekend. At stake is European club football’s most important trophy.

The Nerazzurri have overcome the likes of Barcelona, Porto, Benfica, and AC Milan to get to this stage. Meanwhile, the Cityzens got through a group containing Sevilla and Borussia Dortmund.

Pep Guardiola’s men then overcame the likes of RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, and defending competition holders Real Madrid in the knockout rounds.

Both of the two finalists have had tough paths to reach the final in Istanbul.

And, from the perspective of Nerazzurri Vice-President Zanetti, there is little question that they’re both here entirely on merit.

Zanetti: Inter Milan & Man City Both Deservedly UCL Finalists

The Inter Vice-President said of the Nerazzurri that “This team has deserved to reach the final. They’ve done something incredible, now they still have to take the last step.”

He told Inter wingback Federico Dimarco that “You’ll be up against a great team with top-class players and a great coach.”

“I remember the semifinal against Barcelona,” he said of the Nerazzurri’s two-legged triumph against Guardiola’s men in 2010. “They had an impressive team.

The Nerazzurri Vice-President then observed that “We have quality as a team. And we can easily compete with the team that we’re up against.”

He argued that “The two best teams that deserved this opportunity reached the final.”

The Nerazzurri will face City in Istanbul next Saturday evening in the final.
