Hakan Calhanoglu has confirmed that he intends to extend his contract with Inter Milan very soon.

Speaking to Turkish reporters at Inter Media Day, via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old remarked that he expects to sign a new deal with the Nerazzurri within the “next few days.”

Reports have long suggested that a contract extension is close for Calhanoglu at Inter.

Securing the Turkish international’s future is reportedly a priority for Inter. His current deal runs out at the end of next June, but he is reportedly close to signing until the end of June 2027.

The player himself has confirmed this.

Former AC Milan midfielder Calhanoglu expressed his happiness at being a Nerazzurri player. He made clear that he wants to stay and will commit his future imminently.

The Turk has made 48 appearances for Inter across all competitions this season. Last season, his first at the club, saw him make 46 in total.

“Yes, I will extend my contract, we’ve already agreed on everything,” Calhanoglu told Turkish reports.

“I’m happy here, I don’t want to leave.”

“I will try to play at the highest level through my career,” the Nerazzurri midfielder continued. “This is my first goal, obviously hoping not to deal with injuries.”

He reiterated, “As I said, my contract situation is clear. I will sign in the next few days.”

Of playing the Champions League final in Istanbul, Calhanoglu said that “I’m very happy that we’ll playing in our country.”

“I’m also proud.”

“It will be a good match for us. It’s a special honour for us to be in the final after so many years.”

Calhanoglu made clear that “Of course we know it’ll be difficult. We respect City, but we’re not afraid.”

“We have always played very well, especially against the big teams in the Champions League.”

“We’ve dominated,” Calhanoglu said of Inter’s Champions League campaign. “We’re a good team.”

Of coming up against German international of Turkish descent and Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan, Calhanoglu said that “As a Turkish player, it’s an honour to be in the final.”

“I know he’s on the other side,” the Inter midfielder said of Gundogan. “He’s Turkish in his heart.”

“So there’ll be two Turks in this final,” he said.

“I hope it’ll be a good final. I’ll say one thing: may the better man win.”

Of making the jump from AC Milan to Inter in 2021, Calhanoglu said that “It hasn’t been easy to come here. But everyone has welcomed me with open arms.”

“And this has made me stronger over these last two years.”

“We’re a family,” Calhanoglu said of being at the Nerazzurri. “There’s a good atmosphere here.”
