Legendary former defender Marco Materazzi feels that he’s gotten a lot from being an Inter Milan player over the years.
Speaking at a press conference organized by Nike, via FCInterNews, Materazzi reflected on what having been a Nerazzurri player has meant for him in his life.
Materazzi spent ten years as an Inter player between the years of 2001 and 2011.
The Italian made a total of 276 appearances wearing the Nerazzurri shirt. He also scored twenty goals in the process.
During his time at Inter, Materazzi won everything there was for him to win.
His tenure at the club climaxed in 2010 when he was part of the team that won the European Treble. In total, Materazzi can boast five Serie A titles and four Coppa Italia titles in his trophy cabinet, along with having lifted the Champions League trophy.
Moreover, whilst he was an Inter player, Materazzi won the World Cup with Italy. The defender made a total of 41 appearances during his international career.
Clearly, Materazzi gave a lot to both the Nerazzurri and the Azzurri over his career as a player.
However, from his perspective, the former defender took even more out of the game, and particularly from the Nerazzurri.
Nerazzurri Legend Marco Materazzi: “Inter Milan Is Everything To Me”
The legendary former defender opened up that “Inter is everything to me.”
“I will never stop thanking Inter and its fans for what they have given me,” Materazzi continued.
“I gave them a lot, but they’ve given me so much more.”
Materazzi also gave his thoughts on this evening’s Champions League final against Manchester City.
“This team, like the one in 2010, has the desire to be together, to experience it as a family,” he said.
“The match cannot be predicted, I can’t even say that the better team will win because in a one-off final anything can happen,” he added.
“But I hope that the trophy returns to Milano.”
