Nerazzurri President Steven Zhang feels that Inter Milan proved they’re not inferior to anyone despite losing to Man City.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri President stressed that even in defeat, Inter proved that they’re a team that belong at the level of the summit of European football in the Champions League final.
Inter will have to reflect back on this evening’s final against City the same way they did losses to Liverpool and Real Madrid last season.
As with those matches, the Nerazzurri went into this evening’s match not considered favourites.
And, as with those matches, Inter proved that they could go toe-to-toe with even Europe’s strongest teams. Across all three, the Nerazzurri had chances to get a different result.
Defeat at the last hurdle is a bitter pill for Inter to follow. However, Zhang is still proud of what he saw.
Steven Zhang: Inter Milan Not Inferior To Man City Or Anyone Else
Zhang reflected on this evening’s loss, remarking that “Winning and losing is part of sport.”
“I want to congratulate everyone from all parts of Inter,” he continued. “They all gave 100%.”
“And I congratulate City for their excellent season.”
“We’re proud to have reached the final and played against best,” Zhang continued. “We showed our qualities without fear, regardless of the final result.”
“I think the mentality and quality of our players is of a high standard,” the Inter President continued. “We’re inferior to no one and everyone saw that tonight.”
Zhang Looks To The Future
The Inter President called it “A positive season to reflect on, and we’ve already started working for the future for some time now.”
“The players who have had a great season will keep going with us, and we’re happy to support them.”
“A transfer window cannot be planned in a day…” Zhang added.
The Nerazzurri President then said that “It’s important to stay competitive by retaining our best players.”
“Today we showed that we deserved to be in the final and that we’re a very strong team.”
“Everyone thought it wouldn’t even be a contest,” Zhang noted.
“We’re really proud of the match, but a final always has to have a winner and a loser,” he added. “But we’re very confident about the foundations we’ve laid.”
Of the high average age in the squad. Zhang said that “I’ve learned from football that a winning team needs a mix of youngsters and veterans.”
And regarding striker Romelu Lukaku, the Inter President said that “He has shown a great bond with Inter.”
“He’s an incredible guys,” he said of the striker. “He’s under contract with Chelsea, and we’ll have to talk to them to see what happens.”
