Real Madrid and Man United are ready to go head-to-head for Inter Milan’s Champions League breakout star Federico Dimarco.
This according to UK news outlet the Independent, who claim that the Red Devils and Los Blancos are both keen on bringing in the 25-year-old Italian international wingback following his exploits in Europe’s top club competition during the season just gone.
Dimarco has proved to be a real revelation this season for Inter.
At the start of the season just gone, Dimarco was more of a squad player than a starter for Inter.
The versatile defender had played plenty of football in the previous season. He was used in both the left-wingback role, and on the left side of the back three.
However, Ivan Perisic and Alessandro Bastoni were the clear first-choice options in the positions respectively.
This time around, however, Dimarco has played almost exclusively at wingback.
And the Italian international has made the role his own.
Whilst Robin Gosens has occasionally gotten a look in, it has largely been Dimarco who has taken over from Perisic on the left flank. The 25-year-old’s outstanding performances have been key for Inter in Serie A.
Moreover, Dimarco has also been a vital part of his team’s run to the Champions League final.
Real Madrid & Man United Both Want Inter Milan Star Dimarco
It is Dimarco’s performances in Europe which have caught the eye of the continent’s elite, according to the Independent.
Eleven of his fifty total appearances in all competitions this season for Inter came in the Champions League. Dimarco was Inter’s first-choice starter on the left flank throughout both the group stage and the knockouts.
According to the Independent, United are keen. The Premier League giants would like to strengthen at left-back, and see Dimarco as an ideal option.
However, the 25-year-old is also on the radar of Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants want to sign a new left-back. This season, Edouardo Camavinga has often been forced to deputize in the position, hardly his first choice.
To make sure the Frenchman can play all his minutes in midfield, Real are prepared to sign a left-back. Inter star Dimarco is foremost on their list, based on his Champions League displays.
Dimarco has made 33 appearances for Inter in Serie A over the season just gone.
He scored four goals and made three assists in the process. Dimarco also scored key goals against AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana and Juventus in the Coppa Italia.
