Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has reportedly asked the club to sign Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
The Serbian is one of the best all-round midfielders in Serie A. He’s been plying his trade in the Italian capital since 2015.
The 28-year-old served under the guidance of the current Nerazzurri boss, and the latter remains a keen admirer.
According to Tuttosport via FcInterNews, Inter manager Inzaghi requested the arrival of Milinkovic-Savic this summer.
The midfielder’s contract with the Biancocelesti expires in 2024 and he has no plans of renewing it.
Therefore, Lazio president Claudio Lotito will have to sell his prized asset this summer to avoid losing his services for free a year later.
Nevertheless, the Lazio patron is still requesting 40 million euros to part ways with the star midfielder.
But as the source tells it, Juventus are also monitoring the situation closely. The Bianconeri are longtime suitors of Milinkovic-Savic. Yet, Inzaghi remains hopeful of a reunion with his old Lazio pupil.
The report reveals that the Serbian would command a salary of five million euros per season. He would effectively replace Fenerbahce-bound Edin Dzeko on the club’s wage bill.
Moreover, the possible departure of Marcelo Brozovic would free up additional space for the Serbian’s wages.
Last season, Milinkovic-Savic contributed with 11 goals and eight assists across all competitions.
He also has 43 international caps with the Serbian national team, contributing with seven goals in the process.
