Bayern Munich are ready to join Inter Milan in the race to sign Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta this summer.

This according to UK tabloid the Daily Mail, who report that the German champions are also keen on the experienced Spanish international, although it is the Nerazzurri who are currently pushing to complete a deal for him.

Azplicueta is the name that has emerged as Inter’s priority target in defense over the past few days.

The 33-year-old former Marseille and Osasuna man would certainly represent a veteran addition to the Nerazzurri’s backline.

Azpilicueta has been a Chelsea player for eleven seasons, making over five hundred appearances in a Blues shirt.

Inter have reportedly made their decision to go after the Spaniard. The Nerazzurri are already at work trying to negotiate an exit for Azpilicueta from his Chelsea contract, which currently has one more season on it.

Inter are offering Azplicueta a two-year deal, which he is ready to accept. The Nerazzurri’s hope is that the player and Chelsea can quickly negotiate a termination of his contract so that he can sign.

According to the Daily Mail, agents are currently negotiating a termination of Azpilicueta’s Chelsea contract by mutual consent.

Bayern Ready To Rival Inter To Sign Azpilicueta From Chelsea

According to the Daily Mail, however, Inter aren’t the only club who want Azpilicueta.

Bayern are also keen. Current Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel worked with the Spaniard whilst he was in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel is a big fan of Azplicueta, with whom he won the Champions League in 2021.

The coach has identified the 33-year-old as a target to add experience to the Bavarians’ squad for next season. Bayern could have a vacancy in the right-back position should reported Inter target Benjamin Pavard leave.

It remains to be seen, however, whether Bayern will be able to swoop in ahead of Inter at this stage.
