Veteran defender Danilo D’Ambrosio will leave Inter Milan this summer, with Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta taking his place in the squad.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInter1908.

D’Ambrosio is one of a number of players whose current contracts run out at the end of this month.

As things stand, the former Torino man has just a week left before his deal at the San Siro is over.

Should he not extend his deal, then D’Ambrosio could leave the Nerazzurri after nearly a decade at the club.

There have been talks between the Nerazzurri and D’Ambrosio for a number of months. The club have considered handing the 34-year-old a new deal, though it’s hardly ever been a foregone conclusion.

Serie A side Monza are keen on the former Torino man’s signature should he leave.

Danilo D’Ambrosio To Leave Inter With Cesar Azpilicueta To Take His Place

The fact that D’Ambrosio is 34 years old will certainly play a role in Inter’s decision.

Whilst the veteran defender has shown that he has something to offer over the past couple seasons, his role in the team as also undeniably diminished at the same time.

Accordingly, D’Ambrosio looks likely to seek a new adventure elsewhere in what could be the last chapter of his career.

In his place, Inter are ready to sign a veteran defender from another league.

Chelsea defender Azplicueta has made over 500 appearances for the Blues since joining in 2012. In over a decade at Stamford Bridge, the Spaniard has been a lone constant in the broader state of flux at the London-based giants.

However, the 33-year-old is ready to finally depart from the Blues. He has reportedly already agreed a contract with Inter, and will terminate his Chelsea deal.

According to Tuttosport, he will fill the role of a veteran head in the back three for Inter.
