Inter Milan are likely to be among the teams participating in the 2025 Club World Cup, with significant prize money on offer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper note that winning the competition in its new format could be worth €100 million to the Nerazzurri or any other team who wins it.

FIFA are ready to radically overhaul the format of the Club World Cup competition.

Previously, the competition has been an annual event. The competition has pitted the winners of the champions of various confederations’ cup competitions.

So, for example, the winners of the Champions League qualified out of UEFA. This has meant that there have been seven teams in total, from six confederations.

In 2025, however, things will be much different. FIFA will expand the tournament into a 32-tea knockout competition.

The format of the new competition will be familiar to anyone who follows the World Cup or the Champions League.

32 teams are split into eight groups of four. From there on, there are four knockout stages starting with a round of sixteen.

How Inter Milan Could Qualify For Expanded Club World Cup

In the new format of the competition, each confederation in FIFA but for one will get several spots. UEFA will get the most, with twelve.

Then, CONMEBOL will get six spots. All of AFC, CAF, and CONCACAF will receive four spots. OFC will get a single spot, whilst CONCACAF will get an extra spot due to the US being the host country.

Among UEFA’s twelve spots, four will be given to each of the winners of the Champions League from 2021 until 2024.

This means Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester City are all in. The remaining eight spots will go to teams based on teams based on their UEFA four-year ranking.

Inter have moved up the UEFA rankings significantly in recent seasons. The Nerazzurri’s run to the final of the Champions League last season certainly helped their cause.

Accordingly, at present, Inter look poised to play in the 2025 Club World Cup.
