Inter Milan and Napoli haven’t yet given up on trying to sign Atalanta defender Giorgio Scalvini this summer.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that both the Nerazzurri and the Partenopei continue to see the 19-year-old Italian international as a dream target in defense.

Inter’s interest in signing Scalvini isn’t any secret.

Nerazzurri CEO Beppe Marotta has made it clear that the teenager is a target for the club.

Inter would see Scalvini as the dream target to reinforce the defense following Milan Skriniar’s exit to join Paris Saint-Germain.

However, just as clear as Inter’s interest in the 19-year-old is the difficulty in getting a deal done for him.

Reportedly all of Newcastle United, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City are also eyeing up a move.

This entails an ever-rising price for Scalvini. Reportedly Atalanta are ready to demand no less than €40 million for the Azzurri star.

Inter & Napoli Still Believe In Signing Giorgio Scalvini

However, the Nerazzurri consider Scalvini a player who would be worth a massive effort to sign, financial and otherwise.

Inter have already done very well for themselves signing a young defender from Atalanta in the recent past. Alessandro Bastoni has become a pillar of the Nerazzurri’s team.

Inter could place a similar bet on Scalvini – that a big money move for the 19-year-old could pay off in the end as with his Italy teammate Bastoni.

Napoli are of the same mind, the Gazzetta report.

The Partenopei look set to sell Kim Min-Jae this summer for a big fee, just one season after his arrival.

Therefore, Napoli will be on the lookout for a top-class defender to replace the South Korean. Moreover, the Serie A champions will be flush with cash from Kim’s sale.

Newly-appointed Napoli coach Rudi Garcia is reportedly a big fan of Scalvini.

Therefore, they are still hoping that they can make a deal for the 19-year-old as Inter are.
