Inter Milan are set for a financial windfall following the transfer of midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea to Man City.
This according to Italian football finance news outlet Calcio e Finanza, who report that the Nerazzurri will receive a solidarity payment of €435,000 as part of the total fee for the Croatian international.
Former Inter midfielder Kovacic has sealed a move from Chelsea to Manchester City.
The 29-year-old joins the Premier League and Champions League holders after five seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Reportedly, City will pay Chelsea a fee of around €29 million for the Croat. That could rise to around €34 million including add-ons.
As part of the deal, some of the fee that City pay Chelsea will go to Kovacic’s former clubs for the role that they played in his development.
Inter To Receive Nearly Half A Million Euros For Kovacic Move To Man City
The first of the clubs to receive a solidarity payment from Kovacic’s move to City are LASK. The Croatian international came through the Austrian team’s youth academy.
The Austrians will receive a solidarity payment of €145,000.
Next are Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb.
Kovacic joined Dinamo in 2010 from Lask. The Croatian side will receive the largest solidarity payment out of all the clubs from the deal. They are entitled to a payment of €580,000 for their role in Kovacic’s development.
Inter signed Kovacic from Dinamo in January of 2013. The Nerazzurri will get a €435,000 payment for the two and half seasons that he spent at the San Siro.
In the summer of 2015, Inter sold Kovacic to Real Madrid for a fee of €29 million.
Los Blancos will also get a portion of the Croat’s transfer fee.
However, since solidarity payments only cover the period before a player turns 23, the Spanish giants won’t get a payment commensurate to Kovacic’s entire time at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Rather, Real will receive a payment of €290,000.
