Inter Milan could meet the asking price of Chelsea for striker Romelu Lukaku partly via the inclusion of significant add-ons.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri could get creative with the formula of a deal in order to satisfy the Blues’ demands of a fee worth €45 million for the 30-year-old Belgian international.
It won’t be long now. Inter and Chelsea are ready to sit down for actual talks regarding a transfer of Lukaku.
The Blues have all but accepted that they’ll have to negotiate with Inter.
Whilst a higher fee could come from Al-Hilal, who have reportedly put €50 million on the plate to sign Lukaku, the Belgian himself has made abundantly clear that his priority is to join Inter.
This does not mean, however, that Chelsea are going to acquiesce to accepting any low-ball offers from the Nerazzurri.
Tuttosport report that the Blues are still holding out for €45 million to sell Lukaku to Inter.
Inter Milan Could Offer Chelsea €45M Total With Add-Ons For Romelu Lukaku
This would be a significant fee for Inter.
Even with a big sale of Andre Onana to Manchester United for over €50 million, the Nerazzurri will still not exactly be in a position to allocate that much money to bringing Lukaku back. They also have other transfer business to do.
However, Tuttosport reports, the formula of a deal and add-ons could be key.
The newspaper hypothesizes that Inter could put forward an initial paid loan offer. The loan fee would stand at around €5 million.
Then, there would be a purchase obligation next summer. The Nerazzurri would have to pay around €30 million when Lukaku’s loan ends.
Lastly, another €10 million or so could be tacked on to the deal in add-ons.
These would range from very straightforward add-ons that would be virtually trivial to achieve all the way to ambitious ones like winning the Champions League.
