Inter Milan are one step away from completing the signing of Raffael Di Gennaro, who will return as third-choice goalkeeper.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the decisive meeting with the Sporting Director of his club Gubbio should take place tomorrow.
With Alex Cordaz leaving Inter to join Marcelo Brozovic at Al-Nassr, the Nerazzurri are searching for a new third-choice goalkeeper.
And the Nerazzurri are not waiting around long to make the decisive move to replace the 40-year-old. They have identified their candidate for the role, and are on the verge of wrapping up his siging.
Inter are pursuing a similar course of action as when they signed Cordaz.
Cordaz was brought back to be the third-choice keeper in 2021 because of his familiarity with the club. He had come through Inter’s youth ranks before embarking on something of a journeyman career in Italian football.
The Nerazzurri are going with a similar strategy once again.
They are bringing back a player who came through their youth academy.
Inter Milan One Step Away From Signing Raffaele Gubbio
Like Cordaz, 29-year-old Raffaele Di Gennarois an Inter youth academy graduate.
The current Gubio keeper first joined Inter’s youth academy system in 2002. He stayed on as part of the club until 2019, going on various loan spells as he began his senior career.
Moreover, during the 2018-19 season, Di Gennaro had been part of Inter’s first-team squad. He was the third-choice keeper behind Samir Handanovic and Daniele Padelli. Tommaso Berni was also at the club that season.
Di Gennaro joined Gubbio last summer, where he spent the season just gone.
Inter are ready to re-sign him as the replacement for Cordaz in the third-choice role.
According to Il Messagero, Inter will meet with Gubbio Sporting Director Davide Mignemi tomorrow. In that meeting, they should wrap up the deal to sign back Di Gennaro.
Moreover, Di Gennaro was at Inter’s headquarters today. There, the 29-year-old put the finishing touches on his side of the move to Inter.
