Fiorentina are thinking of joining Inter Milan in the race to sign midfielder Roberto Pereyra on a free transfer.

This according to today’s print edition of Udine-based newspaper Il Messaggero Veneto, via FCInterNews, who report that La Viola are considering rivalling the Nerazzurri for the signature of the 32-year-old former Juventus and Watford man who’s out of contract with Udinese.

Argentine international midfielder Pereyra’s contract has run out with Udinese. His deal expired at the end of last month.

As things stand, it’s not certain how he’ll move forward. If the 32-year-old does not sign an extension with the Friulani, he can join another club on a free transfer this summer.

Inter are among the clubs to have been linked with Pereyra.

However, the Nerazzurri are not the only team considering the Argentine, according to Il Messaggero Veneto.

Fiorentina are also looking at Pereyra as a possible low-cost midfield reinforcement.

Fiorentina Consider Rivalling Inter Milan To Sign Roberto Pereyra

For Inter, Pereyra would be the second midfield signing of the summer.

They have lost only Marcelo Brozovic, who joined Al-Nassr, but also Roberto Gagliardini.

Accordingly, Davide Frattesi almost certainly won’t be the only midfielder who joins Inter this summer. They need a replacement for Gagliardini as the “sixth” midfielder to ensure squad depth for the long season ahead.

Former RB Leipzig midfielder Lazar Samardzic is a player Inter would very much like to sign for the role.

However, securing a deal could prove very tricky considering that Udinese will hold out for a high fee.

Accordingly, Samardzic’s teammate Pereyera is an idea as a less costly option. Arriving without a fee and with modest wage demands, the former Bianconeri man would add Serie A experience and versatility.

However, Fiorentina also appear to be of the same mind.

Viola coach Vincenzo Italiano has not been afraid to rotate his squad heavily, particularly in midfield. Accordingly, the Fiorentina are likely to make a midfield signing before the transfer window closes.

And, according to Il Messaggero Veneto, the Tuscans would like to rival Inter for Pereyra.
