Inter Milan are in talks with Atletico Madrid for striker Alvaro Morata after a deal to sign Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku has totally collapsed.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the 30-year-old has a release clause in his contract with the Colchoneros worth €21 million, and that he is one of the Nerazzurri’s targets now that they will not be signing Lukaku.

After a sensational turn of events in the past few days, it now looks very unlikely that Inter will move for Lukaku.

The Nerazzurri have informed the player directly that they don’t have any intention of signing him. This comes after the Nerazzurri discovered the extent of the Belgian’s negotiations with Juventus.

Therefore, unless things change quickly, Inter will not sign Lukaku.

What this means is that the Nerazzurri will have to sign a different striker.

The Nerazzurri have Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram as attacking options for next season. Then, there’s Joaquin Correa, whose future at the club is very much in the balance.

Considering Inter will want to head into next season with four options in attack, they must sign a striker. And their plan is to move for a player with roughly similar characteristics to Lukaku.

With the negotiations for Lukaku now dead in the water, the Nerazzurri are not waiting around.

According to FCIN, they are already moving on the front of an alternative striker for next season.

And former Juventus, Real Madrid, and Chelsea striker Morata is a serious target, the outlet reports.

Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio has reportedly already called his Atletico opposite number Andre Berta.

The Inter executive has made the interest in Morata clear. They are already getting moving on a potential move for the Spanish international.

In addition, FCIN report that there is a €21 million release clause to sign Morata.
