Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin believes that Inter Milan must take a stand of principal in the Romelu Lukaku situation.

Tweeting about the soap opera which has seen the Nerazzurri withdraw from the race to sign the Belgian after weeks of pursuing him, Biasin praised the club for deciding not to go after a player who had went behind their backs despite the value that he still brings on the pitch.

The Lukaku transfer saga has taken an extraordinary turn in the past day or so.

First, Inter finally seemed to reach an agreement with Chelsea on a transfer yesterday. After weeks of negotiations, the clubs were finally ready to shake hands.

Then, it was the player’s green light that was missing.

Despite the fact that Lukaku had always indicated that his priority was to return to Inter, he did not return the Nerazzurri’s phone calls when it seemed like the time to seal the move was at hand.

As it transpired, the reason for this was that the player is in talks with Juventus. In response, Inter abruptly pulled the plug on the move.

Barring yet another big twist, Lukaku will not make the switch to Inter as anticipated.

Biasin Praises Inter Milan For Handling Of Romelu Lukaku Situation

Inter’s actions in the Lukaku transfer saga have certainly made a bold statement.

After having worked for the past several weeks to make the Belgian’s return happen, the Nerazzurri have walked away from talks in a virtual instant.

According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, the phone call to inform Lukaku lasted all of thirty seconds.

This is quite the about-face from a club who were ready to invest a big cash fee in a player. There’s little doubt that the Nerazzurri were convinced Lukaku’s quality made him the right target to go all-in for.

But, Biasin argued, “The principles of honesty and correct behaviour are worth more than a good striker and his goals. Well done, Inter.”
