Former Nerazzurri and Bianconeri striker Aldo Serena feels that it’s understandable if Romelu Lukaku wants a move to Juventus, but that the player should have handled his situation must differently.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former striker gave his thoughts on the transfer soap opera which has seen Lukaku break decisively from Inter.

On paper, Lukaku negotiating with Juventus and AC Milan this summer was nothing out of the ordinary in Italian football.

The 30-year-old would hardly be the first striker to play for all three of Serie A’s most successful clubs. Christian Vieri, for example, has done so.

And so has Aldo Serena.

The former Italian international won the Serie A title with Inter. But he was far from a one-club man – Serena had spells with all of the Nerazzurri, the Rossoneri, and the Bianconeri.

He even played for Juventus’s city rivals Torino, to boot.

But, he feels, the manner in which Lukaku has gone about things this summer makes the Belgian’s situation very different.

Serena Gives His Thoughts On Lukaku Flirtations With Juventus

“My transfers were largely decided by Inter,” said Serena.

“I could have said no to moves, but it wouldn’t have made sense,” he continued.

“I’ve never tried to pull a fast one on anyone, pr made declarations of eternal love that I then completely went against.”

Serena argued that “The most ridiculous part of this whole affair is Lukaku’s words.”

“Let’s face it – he made that interview where he professed his love of Inter four or five times, and said ‘never Juventus.'”

Of the Belgian’s decision, Serena said that “I think the fact that he didn’t start the final in Istanbul was a big disappointment.”

“Dzeko was preferred to him, and then he was sold.”

“It’s legitimate to feel annoyed about that, and also at the speed with which they sold him to Chelsea after two seasons.”

“He was a professional and didn’t bat an eye, but it was necessary for financial reasons,” Serena added.

“So it doesn’t surprise me that now he wants Juve, nor do I judge him for it.”

“On a human level, I understand it,” Serena said. “The problem is something else – he shouldn’t have disappeared for a week. He should have told the truth.”
