Torino Sporting Director Davide Vagnati feels that acting fast was key to the Granata signing Raoul Bellanova ahead of Inter Milan.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the executive gave his thoughts on the signing of the 22-year-old wingback who had played for the Nerazzurri last season.

Italy Under-21 international Bellanova will be a Torino player next season.

The Piedmontese club have signed him on a permanent basis from Cagliari.

Inter had had Bellanova on loan last season. Moreover, the Nerazzurri had a purchase option in that loan deal, and could have made his transfer permanent had they triggered it.

However, Inter were reluctant to pay the full amount that the clause stipulated.

As the Nerazzurri tried to negotiate with the Rossoblu to sign Bellanova permanently for a lower fee, or with a player-plus-cash offer, Torino sensed an opportunity.

The Granata moved in and made Cagliari an offer that was in fact even higher than the purchase option that Inter had.

Naturally, Cagliari were keen to accept the higher offer from Torino.

Moreover, the player also decided to accept the Granata’s offer – this was also of course crucial.

At Torino, Bellanova will in all likelihood receive more playing time than he had at Inter. This will certainly be a positive for the young wingback.

On the other hand, the 22-year-old will not have the chance to play European football.

But Bellanova made his decision – he’ll take the opportunity that the Granata are giving him.

Torino Sporting Director Vagnati spoke about the transfer. “Raoul was an opportunity that came up quickly.”

“We decided to take advantage, and we didn’t waste any time,” the Granata executive continued.

Vagnati then went on to note that “He’s a player with great talent, and a top prospect.”
