Yann Sommer will be part of Bayern Munich’s squad for their preseason tour of Japan despite transfer links with Inter Milan.
This according to German news outlet Bild, via FCInterNews, who report that the 34-year-old will be part of the Bayern team that departs tomorrow.
Inter have been trying to finally get a move for Sommer over the line in recent days.
The Nerazzurri have been in talks with both the player and with Bayern for a few weeks now.
Sommer is the player who Inter want to sign to replace Andre Onana for the 2023-24 season. And the fact that the Cameroonian has now left to join Manchester United should be the trigger for a move for Sommer.
In addition, there is the fact that Inter captain Samir Handanovic has also left this summer.
That leaves the Nerazzurri without a single starting-quality goalkeeper in their squad ahead of their preseason tour of Japan, which departs today.
Clearly, there is little hope for Inter of bringing Sommer along with them to Japan.
Not only that, Bild report, but Bayern are in fact set to bring the Swiss as part of their own delegation.
Bayern Keeper Yann Sommer To Travel For Preseason Tour Despite Inter Links
According to Bild, Bayern have decided that Sommer will be part of their squad for their upcoming preseason tour.
This decision partly comes because of the continued absence of Bayern captain Manuel Neuer through injury. With the 37-year-old still missing, Sommer remains his only real starting-quality deputy in the team.
Whilst Inter and Bayern do not face each other in a friendly in Japan, they will both be in the Asian country.
Therefore, the two teams’ paths could well cross in the form of transfer talks for Sommer.
A move for the 34-year-old former Borussia Monchengladbach whilst already in Japan cannot be excluded.
But as far as which team the keeper will actually travel with, it will be Bayern.
