Inter Milan want to complete a deal to sign Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer within the next week.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri do not want to wait around forever to sign the 34-year-old, and that they want this week to be the decisive one for his arrival.
Inter have now been hovering over Sommer for a number of days without making a decisive move to sign the 34-year-old.
The Nerazzurri have wanted to wrap up a deal for Sommer quickly after selling Andre Onana to Manchester United.
The fact that Inter captain Samir Handanovic has also left the club means that the Nerazzurri are currently without a starting-quality senior goalkeeper in their squad.
Inter have failed in their objective of signing Sommer before their preseason tour of Japan. They are currently in the country, but have not yet signed the Swiss.
Sommer could, however, make the switch whilst in Japan. With Inter already in the country, Bayern are leaving today.
Therefore, there could well be a round of talks between the clubs as they embark on their respective preseason tours. And Sommer could even complete the signing from one team to the other.
Inter Milan Want To Wrap Up Yann Sommer Signing ASAP
Whilst having Sommer in the squad for friendlies against Al-Nassr and Paris Saint-Germain now looks in major doubt, there’s an even more important deadline looming.
Inter kick off their Serie A season in less than a month.
At present, the departures of both Onana and Handanovic means that the Nerazzurri don’t have a starting-quality senior goalkeeper on their books.
Obviously facing their league opener against Monza in this condition would be a nightmare scenario for Inter.
And Sommer will also need a bid of time to settle in and integrate with his teammates.
Therefore, the Corriere report, Inter want to do the deal this week.
