Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali is happy that Davide Frattesi was able to make the big move to Inter Milan this summer.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in yesterday’s print edition, via FCInter1908, the Neroverdi executive gave his thoughts on the 23-year-old’s transfer.

Frattesi arrived at Inter this summer.

The Italian international is one of the Nerazzurri’s marquee arrivals ahead of next season.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form for Sassuolo across his first two seasons of top flight football.

This has also earned Frattesi some call-ups to the Italian national team, who he has been playing an increasingly prominent role for.

Frattesi arrives at Inter with big expectations, there’s no doubt about that. The Nerazzurri had to beat out the likes of Roma, Juventus, and AC Milan to nab the 23-year-old’s signature.

But the Azzurri star is also a player who has already proved what he’s capable of.

Frattesi has never looked out of place playing at the Serie A level with Sassuolo. Nor with the Italian national team under Roberto Mancini.

Then, there is the fact that Frattesi is still only 23. Inter will have taken the bet that this is only the beginning for Frattesi. He can build on the level that he has already shown in a Sassuolo shirt, and become even more of a force.

There are parallels to when Inter signed Nicolo Barella at virtually the same age and stage of his career from Cagliari in 2019.

Sassuolo CEO Happy For Davide Frattesi Getting His Big Move To Inter

As Inter have gained an important player for their future, Sassuolo have lost a key part of their team.

But for his part, Carnevali is not upset about it. He sees it as part of the natural cycle of football.

The Neroverdi have a reputation for developing young players well, and replacing players who they sell for big fees effectively.

Asked about Frattesi’s sale, Carnevali replied that “Sassuolo have shown that you can stay in Serie A a long time by developing young players.”

“So to answer, no, I’m not sad to see him go,” he added. “I’m happy to see him get his big move.”
